Simplify Cat Enrichment
We know you’re all familiar with Toy Cycling, but what you might not have considered is that you can cycle A LOT MORE than just your cat’s toys!
Indoor cats are more prone to boredom since their environment rarely changes. That boredom can lead to unwanted behavioral issues. The best enrichment you can do for your cat to prevent indoor boredom is change up and cycle anything and everything your cat comes in contact with. We recommend you have a couple of each toy & supply for your cat and rotate between them, BUT it doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.
What types of supplies to cycle:
-
Scratchers: One of the reasons I love cardboard scratchers is because they’re recyclable and I can change up not only Lucy's enrichment but mine by enjoying finding a new fun one every few months.
-
Cycle their food bowls & lick mats! If you have even two different bowls or plates to put their food in on different days or introduce licks mats for their wet food or wet treats. That keeps even the smallest details of their days from becoming repetitive and boring.
-
Have different cat beds in different rooms so they’re interacting with different touchpoints.
-
Multiple puzzles and changing whether they get kibble or treats in them makes sure every time they have to forage, they need to go about it a new way
-
Switch their smackers from soft pom poms to crinkle balls
-
Swap out the attachments on their favorite wand
-
Moving your furniture, even just a bit so they have to get reacquainted and find new favorite places.
-
Faux plants/room decor, getting something new, moving what you already have around, or changing what’s out seasonally. Lucy has an entire day of rediscovering the living room when our Christmas tree and decorations go up every year.
-
Change the colors of their toys and supplies
-
Change the textures of their toys and supplies
If you’re on a budget, there’s TONS of DIy ways to cycle.
-
Wand attachments
-
Food puzzles
-
Scratchers
-
Goosie Games! Playing with the same toys but in different ways to stimulate different instincts!
Of course, if your cat has an emotional attachment to something or will only eat out of a certain bowl, skip rotating those! The most important thing is learning what your cat likes and what makes them happy. Don’t take something away from them that they love, rely on, or excites them
